A £5.25 billion regeneration of our town centre brings so much promise, but the growing pains in the process can be hard on the local business community and its patrons. At Croydon BID, we have a unique role to play ensuring our town centre continues to be a destination we can all enjoy.
The experience of Croydon must be a positive one as we deal with the pressures of regeneration and growth, but how do we do this? Our ambassadors play a big part – in their bright pink uniforms, they offer the welcome smile, helpful information, advice and guidance and are often people’s first impression of our town. Our cleaning team are our unsung heroes, as many of our major footfall streets are deep cleaned, delivering a fresh look and feel to the pedestrian walkways of our town centre.
Investing in your safety remains a constant focus for Croydon BID. We have made progress in strengthening our relationship with the Croydon Metropolitan Police Service increasing visibility and offering the business community tangible results.
Working in partnership with Croydon Council, Centrale and Whitgift Shopping centres and many others, we have and are creating a diverse range of events and activities for everyone of all ages to look forward to and enjoy. Thousands turned out to StreetLive over the summer, with everything from Wimbledon tennis to transforming the High Street into a beach. We can’t wait to see what 2020 has in store!
As Croydon continues its transformation, not only does the number of employment opportunities grow, but the variety increases. Further, we’re committed to the council’s Good Employer Charter, which among other things delivers on a promise to pay a London Living Wage to its employees. We encourage our Croydon businesses to join the Good Employer Network enabling both our employers and employees to benefit as our economy grows.
What’s next? We are striving to work even closer with the night-time economy whereby you can enjoy many great venues including pubs, clubs and restaurants that Croydon has to offer. And I’m very excited for the Croydon Beer Festival coming up on 28 February.
